Are Swiggy, Zepto, Big Basket killing the Kirana stores? A recent JP Morgan study says yes. Out of 50 grocery stores in Mumbai, 60% reported a drop in sales. And guess what? 82% blame it on quick commerce. Now that is a big hit.
But the big giants in the cucumbers have a different story. They say our customers were always online shoppers. So we are not taking any business from Kiranas. But of course, local traders aren't buying it. In fact, Pravin Kandelwal from CIT says FDI backed QCOMs undercutting local stores and disrupting fair competition. But that being said, will the government step in?
Well, 62% of Kirana owners want action, especially after discovering that coupon players are getting better deals from brands than local stores. But not all Kiranas are backing down. 25% are fighting back by diversifying products, offering home delivery, and also rewarding loyal customers.
So what's your take on this? Is QCOM the next evolution of shopping or should the government step in to create a fair place for Kirana stores? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
