MahaRERA Sets New Standards: Over 6,755 Agents Clear Competency Exam

28th January 2025

4 Min Read

The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) recently concluded the sixth phase of its real estate agent competency examination, held on January 4, 2025. In a remarkable achievement, 6,755 out of 7,624 candidates cleared the exam, marking an impressive success rate of 89%.

This phase saw a diverse group of participants, including 5,637 men and 1,118 women. Notably, 264 senior citizens also passed the examination, showcasing the inclusivity of this initiative. Among them, 84-year-old Daulatsinh Gadhvi from Mumbai stands out as an inspiring example of lifelong learning. Pune’s Praveen Kamble topped the list with a stellar score of 98%.

Empowering Real Estate Agents through Training

MahaRERA has been instrumental in professionalizing Maharashtra's real estate sector. In January 2023, it mandated training and certification for all registered real estate agents. Agents who failed to comply faced suspension, as seen in May 2024, when over 20,000 registrations were revoked.

Since the implementation of this mandate, more than 20,000 agents have successfully cleared the competency examination, reflecting the growing commitment to transparency and professionalism in the real estate sector.

Enhancing Transparency for Buyers

To further safeguard homebuyers, MahaRERA introduced guidelines on January 18, 2025, encouraging them to conduct due diligence before purchasing properties. The guidelines emphasized dealing only with registered real estate agents and outlined steps for monitoring project progress through the MahaRERA website.

Developers are also held accountable under MahaRERA’s rules. They must submit quarterly updates on project progress, ensuring buyers have access to accurate and timely information. In case of grievances, homebuyers can approach MahaRERA for resolution.

Strengthening Industry Standards

The competency examination is not just a regulatory requirement but a step towards enhancing trust and professionalism in the real estate sector. By mandating half-yearly progress reports and ensuring that agents are well-trained, MahaRERA is raising the bar for accountability.

This initiative also benefits homebuyers, offering them greater transparency and a safer environment for property investments. As Maharashtra's real estate market continues to evolve, MahaRERA's efforts are pivotal in creating a more robust and trustworthy ecosystem.
