In the bustling city of Ahmedabad, where education hubs are growing rapidly, one startup has been silently reshaping the student accommodation industry. RoomPe, a bootstrapped proptech startup, has defied all odds to achieve a staggering $1 million in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR).
While most startups chase funding, RoomPe chose a different path—building a sustainable, self-funded business focused on solving real-world problems.
For years, universities have faced challenges in managing student accommodations efficiently. From room allocations to daily maintenance, hostel operations demand significant time and resources. Traditionally, universities handled these tasks themselves, leading to inefficiencies and increased operational costs.
Enter RoomPe, a startup that saw an opportunity to streamline this process through a B2B model, enabling universities to outsource their hostel management and focus on what truly matters—education.
By leveraging technology and operational expertise, RoomPe has become a trusted partner for educational institutions. The company manages over 300 beds across multiple university campuses in Western India. Their vision? To make hostel management effortless for universities, ensuring students get a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living environment.
Co-founder Deval Patel explains,
“Our goal is to let universities and academicians focus on studies and student activities, while we take care of all the daily hostel management work, from room allocation to check-out and everything in between.”
This approach has allowed universities to attract more students, launch new residential programs, and even expand their campuses without the burden of managing hostels.
What makes RoomPe different? It’s not just about providing a bed—it’s about enhancing the student living experience.
Co-founder Satya Mehta, a well-known name in the startup and student community, highlights:
“We take care of everything—food, laundry, housekeeping, security, staff, and even hostel management technology with our app. Our services help universities attract more students to hostels every year.”
With this holistic approach, universities no longer have to worry about the day-to-day operations, making it easier for them to scale and attract students from other states and countries.
After making a strong impact in Ahmedabad, RoomPe is now expanding its reach. The startup is set to launch its services in key cities across Gujarat, including:
Additionally, RoomPe has big plans to enter residential school accommodations and even corporate housing in the near future.
While the COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges for the entire hospitality and accommodation sector, RoomPe remained resilient and profitable. Unlike many startups that depend on external funding, RoomPe continued to grow without raising investments, proving that a strong business model and customer satisfaction are the true markers of success.
With an unwavering commitment to quality and operational excellence, RoomPe is not just managing hostels—it is transforming student accommodation in India.
