Dhawad is the administrative headquarters of the Dharwad district in Karnataka. The city had been merged with Hubli in 1961 which is now known as Hubli Dharwad. The city is located 425 kilometres towards Bangalore&rsquo;s northwest, along the NH 4, between Pune and Bangalore.
Transportation
Dharwad is well connected to most major metropolitan cities through airways, railways and roads. The North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation or NWKRTC provides intercity transportation between Dharwad and Hubli. The NWKRTC has been headquartered at the Gokul Road in Hubli. Apart from the NWKRTC, the Bendre Nagara Sarige is another bus service operated by private players. Bus services from Hubli Dharwad are available to go to other parts of Karnataka and its neighbouring states as well. The Agricultural Produce Market Committee was also established to provide farmers with a free market platform for establishing stimulated and regulated production of different agricultural goods and commodities.
The Hubballi Software IT Park is located towards the centre of the city and has been promoted by Government of Karnataka and KEONICS. STPI Hubli is situated within the park and is responsible for industry promotion and providing incubation services and data communication.
The new age diesel locomotive shed established in Dharwad has been a major force in the industrial development of the city. It is one of its kinds for the Indian Railways and has created numerous job opportunities for engineering and diploma graduates of the state.
