A Vision Unfolds: Connectivity for Every Corner
In a bold move set to reshape the rural landscape, the Government of India has unveiled a transformative ₹4,224 crore package for 316 road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV) in Jammu and Kashmir. This landmark decision marks the largest ever investment in rural road infrastructure for the Union Territory, heralding a new age of opportunity for its most remote and underserved communities.
With PMGSY-IV, the promise of connectivity extends to every corner of Jammu and Kashmir—even the tiniest villages with just 250 residents will now be linked to the wider world. Over 1,781 kilometers of new roads will weave through the region, connecting 390 rural habitations and opening doors to education, healthcare, markets, and essential services for thousands.
A deliberate focus on the Jammu division ensures that historically neglected areas will finally see the fruits of development. By prioritizing regions that have long lagged behind, this initiative seeks to foster equitable growth, unlocking the untapped potential of communities that have remained isolated for far too long.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has publicly expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for their unwavering support. Highlighting J&K’s distinction as the first state or union territory to be sanctioned under PMGSY-IV, the L-G emphasized the profound impact this project will have on the region’s future.
Unlike previous phases, which included both road upgrades and bridge projects, PMGSY-IV is dedicated solely to laying new roads. This strategic pivot ensures that untouched rural areas receive their first-ever all-weather connectivity, setting the stage for enduring progress and prosperity.
The project is a true partnership, with the Union Rural Development Ministry contributing ₹3,801.80 crore and the J&K government providing ₹422.43 crore. This shared commitment guarantees robust funding and efficient execution, ensuring that every rupee is invested in the region’s future.
This historic investment is more than just a road-building exercise—it is a catalyst for transformation. By connecting remote habitations, PMGSY-IV will empower communities, stimulate local economies, and lay the groundwork for a brighter, more inclusive future for Jammu and Kashmir.
