Universal Studios to Launch India’s First Indoor Theme Park in Delhi Aerocity

A thrilling new chapter is about to be written in India’s entertainment story

Universal Studios, the iconic global theme park operator renowned for its immersive attractions across the world, is gearing up to make its grand debut in India.

This exciting venture is set to unfold within a massive new mall near Delhi airport, developed by Bharti Real Estate, promising to bring world-class indoor amusement experiences to Indian audiences for the very first time.

A Visionary Entertainment Destination in the Heart of Delhi

At the heart of this ambitious project lies Bharti Real Estate’s upcoming 3-million-square-foot mall, part of the sprawling 17-million-square-foot Aerocity development.

Strategically located near the Delhi airport, the mall is poised to become India’s largest retail and entertainment hub.

Within this vast space, approximately 300,000 square feet-about 10% of the leasable area-has been earmarked specifically for a global entertainment park.

Bharti Real Estate’s CEO, SK Sayal, has confirmed ongoing discussions with international partners, fueling speculation about Universal Studios’ involvement.

While the company has not officially named Universal Studios, industry insiders and reports from The Economic Times strongly indicate that the legendary theme park brand is leading the talks.

Transforming India’s Indoor Entertainment Landscape

The introduction of Universal Studios would be a game-changer for India’s indoor amusement sector.

Currently, this industry spans around 6.6 million square feet across 523 operational locations, primarily dominated by unorganised domestic players.

International brands such as Timezone, Funcity, and Funtura hold roughly 28% of the market share, mostly focusing on gaming zones.

However, the sector is evolving, with trampoline parks and experiential entertainment formats gaining traction.

With the planned Universal Studios facility, India could witness a dramatic shift toward large-scale, immersive entertainment.

The indoor amusement space is projected to grow to 11 million square feet by 2028, driven by mall expansions and increasing consumer demand for experiential leisure activities.

Aerocity: The Perfect Launchpad for Global Entertainment

Bharti Real Estate’s Aerocity project is already a landmark development, with over 6.5 million square feet of construction underway and investments exceeding ₹6,595 crore.

Once fully operational, the mall and its associated developments are expected to generate more than ₹5,000 crore in annual rental income, underscoring the economic potential of this venture.

Aerocity’s proximity to the Delhi airport and its integration with hospitality, retail, and entertainment facilities make it an ideal location for Universal Studios’ first indoor park in India.

This integration promises seamless visitor experiences, combining shopping, dining, and entertainment under one roof.

Universal Studios’ Global Expansion and India’s Rising Appeal

Universal Studios operates renowned theme parks in the United States, Singapore, Japan, and Beijing, each known for their innovative rides, themed zones, and cinematic experiences.

The company’s interest in India signals the country’s growing stature as a key market for international entertainment brands.

As India’s middle class expands and urban centers develop, demand for high-quality leisure destinations is surging.

The potential Universal Studios park in Delhi would not only cater to local visitors but also attract tourists, positioning India as a significant player in the global entertainment map.

“The interest from global entertainment brands in exploring entry into this market only strengthens the outlook and underscores the Delhi NCR’s readiness for large-scale, immersive experiences.”
- Saurabh Shatdal, Head of Retail India, Cushman & Wakefield

Looking Forward: A New Era of Entertainment in India

If finalized, Universal Studios’ indoor theme park will be more than just an attraction; it will be a cultural landmark, inspiring creativity, joy, and wonder.

It will elevate India’s entertainment industry by introducing world-class standards and innovative experiences that blend technology, storytelling, and fun.

For families, tourists, and thrill-seekers alike, this park promises a magical escape-a place where the enchantment of movies and the excitement of rides come alive in spectacular fashion.
