Tappal is a tehsil in the district of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. It is around 60 kilometres towards the west of Aligarh. The state capital of Lucknow is 418 kilometres in the east. The area is located close to the Yamuna Expressway.

Located 203 kilometres towards the northwest of Kanpur, Aligarh is the administrative capital of the Aligarh Police Range and Aligarh District. This city in Uttar Pradesh is known for the Aligarh Muslim University, which attracts thousands of students across the country. The city is known for its lock making industry, which has spun off the moniker Tala Nagri. The city is only 140 kilometres towards the southeast of New Delhi which places it at a strategic position.
Transport
Aligarh is served by its own railway station which is along the Kolkata Delhi route. It connects to the eastern states of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar. Trains plying to cities such as Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Puri, Jhansi and Varanasi are available from here. The city has a branch railway line to the city of Bareilly in UP. The closest airport to Aligarh is the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, 140 kilometres away. An airport is being constructed for Aligarh in Dhanipur along the NH91. The Airports Authority of India shall be developing the airport in the city.
Economy
Aligarh is known to be an agricultural trading centre where agricultural product manufacturing and processing are important. As mentioned earlier, lock making in Aligarh is a big industry and these locks are exported all over the world. The first company to have started this business was Johnson and Co, in 1870.

Zinc die casting is also one of the major industries in Aligarh. The Indian Die Casting Industries at the Sasni Gate Area is the most reputed in the city. Harduagank Thermal Power Station and Narora Atomic Power Station are 15 and 50 kilometres from here respectively.
Other prominent companies that are located in and around Aligarh include Heinz ketchup manufacturing in Manzurgarhi, UltraTech Cement Company, Satha Sugar Factory on the Kasimpur Aligarh Power House Route, Wave Distillery in Atrauli and Indian Oil Botelling Plant in Khair.
