Annur is a suburban area located towards the northeast of Coimbatore. It is around 29 kilometres from Gandhipuram, the centre of the city. It lies at the intersection of three major roads: Annur Mettupalayam, Avinashi Annur Road and NH 209 or the Bengaluru-Coimbatore Road. The Coimbatore Junction is around 32 kilometres from here, while the Coimbatore International Airport is 27 kilometres. Annur is situated between Sathyamangalam and Coimbatore.

Coimbatore- The Largest Urban Agglomeration Of India
Ruled by the Sangam Cheras, Coimbatore was the main trade route between the west coast and Tamil Nadu. In fact, many Roman coins and artefacts have been discovered in this city, implying major ties of the area with Roman traders.
Now, Coimbatore is the second biggest city of Tamil Nadu. It has been counted among the fastest growing Tier II cities of India and is a major producer of industrial, textile and IT services and products. The city is the fourth largest metro area of South India and is the best emerging city of India according to the Annual Indian City Survey of 2014 conducted by the India Today. Coimbatore even after being considered as huge industrialized city still remains a pollution free city. The city has been labelled as the Manchester of south India.

Transport
Situated 15 kilometres from the centre of the city at Peelamedu, the Coimbatore International Airport caters to flights from important Indian cities such as Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. International flights to Sharjah and Singapore also operate from here. Coimbatore has been served by the Indian Railways since 1863, the first line connecting it to Kerala and the western coast of India. The Coimbatore and Podanur Junction are two of the important railway stations of the area. A bypass line also exists between Podanur and Irugur for Kerala bound trains.
Coimbatore is served by six important roads- Pollachi, Palakkad, Mettupalayam, Sathyamangalam, Trichy and Avinashi Roads. There are three National Highways passing through, such as NH 47, 67 and 209 which lead to Gundlupet, Kanyakumar and Bangalore among other areas. The population to vehicle ratio is very high. There are several radio taxis and autos serving the local populace.
Economy
The city has a conglomeration of large, medium and small industries which cater to textiles and engineering. The Manchester of South India contributes with their cotton fields and textiles. The city also has two IT parks at TIDEL Park close to Peelamedu and CHIL SEZ at Saravanampatti. Companies such as Cameron International Corporation, TCS, Wipro, Dell, IBM and HCL have their offices here. Cognizant Technology Solutions has its second biggest hub in India at Coimbatore and employs close to 5000 people. The city also has a large population that provide medical transcription, coding and billing services.
The automobiles industry of Coimbatore is also well-developed as Tata Motors and Maruti Udyog manufacture almost 30 percent of their automobiles&rsquo; parts in the city.
Lifestyle
The social infrastructure offered to denizens of Coimbatore is very developed. The city has 7 universities, 3 medical colleges and 78 engineering colleges in its midst. Some of these institutions are Anna University, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding and Bharathiar University. The healthcare industry of Coimbatore has been estimated at Rs 1500 crores. There are almost 750 hospitals in Coimbatore which have a capacity of five thousand beds. Some of the reputed hospitals of the city include KG Hospital, Sheela Hospital and Ganga Hospital.
There are several amusement parks in the city such as Maharaja Theme Park, Black Thunder Water Theme Park and Kovai Kondattam Amusement Park that serve as entertainment zones for the populace. Malls have been constructed in the city since 1980s. Some of the prominent malls here include Fun Republic and Brookefields Malls. These infrastructures create great significance in Coimbatore&rsquo;s real estate market.
Thanks to the growing IT and ITeS industries salaried populations of the city aspire to live in larger accommodations such as 3BHK in Coimbatore property. There are several under construction properties in Coimbatore that are located near to the railway station and airport.
Miscellaneous Categories Coimbatore Monorail
The Government has resolved to introduce monorail services in the city. Three routes have been proposed- two circular ones plying through south and north and a dual line between the West and East. The northern route shall start from Gandhipuram and ply through Sai Baba Colony, Townhall and RS Puram among other areas and terminate at Gandhipuram.
The second route shall ply from Podanur to Race Course, Sungam and Redfields and end at Podanur. Thondamuthur and Vadavalli are two of the areas included in the phase extension from Chinniampalayam to TNAU.
