Kozhikode : City of Sculptures
Calicut or Kozhikode is a part of Kerala and is the second biggest city of the state. It is around 380 kilometres towards the north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of the state. The city was known as the City of Spices in the Middle Ages because it was a major trading point for eastern spices. Quite recently, the city was titled City of Sculptures for the various architectural sculptured located through the city.
Kozhikode was ranked eleventh among Tier II Indian cities for job creation by ASSOCHAM back in 2007. The research firm ranked Kozhikode as the second best city to live in India. The city continues to be a trading point for products such as rubber, coffee, coconut, pepper and lemon grass oil.
Transportation
Intercity transport is well developed in Kozhikode as private buses are available for commuting between. The KSRTC provides bus services to neighbouring states and destinations within the state. There are three bus stands in the city where these buses depart. Kozhikode has a coastal route with Calicut through Tirur, North Paravur, Chavakkad and Chamravattom.

Two prominent schools of Kozhikode are St. Joseph&rsquo;s Boys School and Spring Valley School. Several reputed and rank holding educational institutions are there in the city such as Indian Institute of Management and the National Institute of Technology. The University of Calicut is located 24 kilometres towards the south Kozhikode and has several colleges affiliated to it.
