Urwa is a residential located in the south of Mangaluru. It is surrounded by neighbourhoods such as Bunder, Kavoor, Kankanady, Kadri, Hampankatta, Derebail, Bondel, Bendoor, Bejai and Attavar. The neighbourhood is known for the Mariyamma Temple also called the Urwa Marigudi.

Mangalore- Petrochemical Capital of India
Mangalore was controlled by the Kadambas, Alupas, and the Vijaynagar Empire and finally by the Portuguese. The city was also a potential bone of the contention between the British and Mysore rulers, mostly Hyder Ali.
Mangalore which can also referred to as Mangaluru is the prime port city of Karnataka. The city is located 371 kilometres towards the west of Bangalore, the state&rsquo;s capital. It lies between the Western Ghats and Arabian Sea and is the administrative capital of the Dakshina Kannada district. The port is the staging point of sea traffic along the Malabar Coast. The port handles seventy five percent of India&rsquo;s cashew and coffee exports. The city is ranked 13th among the top business destination of India.
Thanks to the industrial development of the city, prices of property in Mangalore are comparable to those of other Tier II cities and a few Tier I cities as well.
Transportation
Being a port city, Mangalore enjoys good communication with other parts of India via road, railways and air. For intercity travelling, one can avail autos, taxis, trains and KSRTC and private buses.
The Mangalore International Airport is located 15 kilometres towards the northeast from the centre of the city in Kenjar. It is the second largest airport of Karnataka. Numerous airlines such as Air India Express, Jet Airways, Etihad Airways and SpiceJet operate from here. Regular flights to other Indian cities and international destinations such as Oman, UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain operate from here. For easy commutes to the city, Vajra Volvo buses ply from various localities.
Mangalore has four national highways passing through it, namely NH 66 from Panvel to Edapally in Cochin, NH 48 that goes towards Bangalore, NH 13 from Mangalore to Solapur and NH 234 to Villupuram. The NHAI is upgrading the national highways to connect Surathkal to New Mangalore Port via NH 66.
Apart from the KSRTC buses, CBOA and DKBOA buses also operate from here. Mangalore is served by two railway stations- Mangalore Junction at Kankanady and Mangalore Central in Hampankatta. The Southern Railway Line connects Mangalore to Trivandrum, Chennai, Kollam and Kochi. Connectivity to Mumbai from Mangalore is provided by the Konkan Railway. Both Kankanady and Hampankatta have residential under construction properties in Mangalore demanded by those who want to live near to the railway station.
Economy
Being a port city, the Mangalore Harbour is the biggest source of income for most people living here. The city handles both agricultural and industrial exports. Some of the industrial exports include LPG containers, crude products and petroleum oil lubricants. In terms of cargo handled, it is the eighth largest port of India. Some of the important industries in the city include Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd., Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd., Total Oil India Limited and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd.
Mangalore has a number of SEZs, the largest one being ONGC MSEZ which is the fastest growing one of the non-metro type. The investment made in the ONGC MSEZ is supposed to go above 1000 billion. Three other IT SEZs are coming up in the city, where companies such as Lotus, Wipro and TCS have invested more than Rs 30 billion. It is slated to create employment that run into lakhs. Currently, well known IT and BPO companies are there in the city such as Cognizant Technology Solutions, Mphasis BPO, Infosys and Thomson Reuters.
Mangalore also has a sound financial sector, as it houses the headquarters of three public sector banks- Vijaya Bank, Canara Bank and Corporation Bank. The Karnataka Bank was founded in Mangalore and is one of the biggest private sector banks. The SCDCC and MCC Bank Ltd. are also established banking institutions in the city.
Lifestyle 
Being a recipient of Christian missionaries, there are several church operated schools in the city. One of the first schools to have been started here was the Canara High School in 1891. Other schools include Milagres School and Basel Evangelical School. There are several higher educational institutions in Mangalore such as National Institute of Technology, Sahyadri Educational Institutions- College of Engineering and Management and Srinivas Institute of Technology. Medical facilities in Mangalore are well-developed, as evident from the fact that it is home to India&rsquo;s first privately owned medical college- Kasturba Medical College. Other hospitals include Yenepoya Medical College, KS Hegde Medical Academy and Father Muller Medical College.
There are more than twenty malls in Mangalore, the biggest one being the Lotus Mall with a built-up area of 12.7 lakh square feet. Given the way the hospitality industry is progressing in the city, it has been touted as the next Singapore. With such a title, Mangalore real estate is a market with great potential adding more value to the lifestyle.

The ONGC is planning to invest around Rs 35,000 crores in a new petrochemical plant and refinery along with LNG plants at the Mangalore SEZ. The Indian Strategic Petroleum Reseres is also formulating strategic crude oil reserves.
Dedicated IT Parks
The state government has planned to establish three IT parks with two EPIPs in Ganjumutt. An SEZ is also under construction close to the Mangalore University. The BA Group is also working on an IT SEZ in Thumbe.
