Miscellaneous Categories-Future Infrastructural Developments in Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System
The NCR Transport Plan for 2021 had proposed a Regional Rapid Transit System between Meerut and Delhi along with the Ghaziabad Shahdara segment. The project is being handled by the Delhi Integrated Multimodal Transit System. The trains were set to ply between Anand Vihar in Delhi and Meerut with stops every 4 to 5 kilometres. Some of the stops along the lines were slated to be at Muradnagar, Modi Nagar, Gang Nahar and Meerut Bypass Cut. The project is expected to be completed by 2017. In 2013, certain objections raised by NHAI led to a realignment of the line. From 90 kilometres the proposed route has been extended to 116 kilometres.
Meerut Delhi Expressway
Under the NCR Transport Plan 2021, an expressway from Meerut to Delhi via Ghaziabad was proposed. The Ghaziabad to Delhi section was slated to be worked upon between 2001 and 2011 while the leg from Meerut to Ghaziabad would be completed between 2011 and 2021. In 2013, it was slated that the stretch from UP Gate to Meerut would be converted to fourteen lanes from six lanes. The project is currently under preparation for Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committees. There have been proposals to construct a flyover near Mogan Nagar and viaducts at Murad Nagar and Modinagar. The NH 58 shall also be made into a six lane one from Partapur to UP Gate. With easier connectivity via well-structured roads will allow great investments to take place for property in Meerut.
