What is a water leak detector?

A water leak detector is a smart sensor device that detects the presence of water or moisture in areas where leaks or flooding could cause damage such as under sinks, near water heaters, or around washing machines. It sends instant alerts via app or alarm when water is detected.

How Water Leak Detectors Work

Leak detectors use electrical conductivity sensors. When water bridges two sensor probes, it completes an electrical circuit and triggers an alert. Advanced systems connect to smart home hubs or Wi-Fi and send smartphone notifications immediately.

Where to Place Water Leak Detectors

  • Under kitchen and bathroom sinks.
  • Near the water heater or geyser.
  • Behind washing machines and dishwashers.
  • In basements and utility rooms.
  • Near overhead water tanks and water inlet valves.

Water damage is one of the most common and expensive home repair issues. A water leak detector is an inexpensive but highly effective device that protects your property and saves significant repair costs.
