
Flight operations began at the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram at midnight.
The airport is in Vizianagaram district. The first aircraft received a traditional water cannon salute upon landing.
As operations got underway, several passengers spoke about their experience. Many praised the new infrastructure at the airport.
Malathi Nagabhairava was one of the first passengers to arrive, flying in from Hyderabad. She described her journey as fantastic.
She said she felt safe and secure, with zero turbulence. She told ANI she was proud to be part of the airport's opening, and praised its blend of modern technology with traditional touches.
Another passenger, Mayank, travelled from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam on the first flight to land.
He said the flight was smooth, with no turbulence. He also received a water cannon salute on arrival.
He described the airport's facilities, including food, lounge, taxis and medical care, as comparable to those at Delhi and Bengaluru airports.
V. Koteswara Rao, a retired BSNL employee, highlighted the airport's connectivity. He said it is very convenient for the three districts of Uttarandhra.
His daughter was flying to Bahrain from the airport on its opening day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on August 1.
He described it as a "historic project" that would boost connectivity.
He said it would also accelerate the state's development.
In a post on X, Modi said the airport is named after freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju. He said it reflects pride in India's heritage.
He added that the airport integrates state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge technologies, and would give a significant boost to tourism, commerce, investments and employment.
He also noted that the terminal building reflects the cultural identity of Andhra Pradesh.
