Expo 2030 Riyadh and Mohammed Al Habib Real Estate Company have signed a SAR3.2 billion ($853 million) joint venture agreement to develop and deliver Expo Village.
The project will provide purpose-built accommodation for official participants and delegations during Expo 2030 Riyadh.
The agreement is the first residential joint venture signed by Expo 2030 Riyadh.
The partnership brings private-sector investment and real estate expertise into the development of the Expo site. It also aims to create long-term value for Riyadh beyond the six-month event.
Expo Village will feature around 2,300 residential apartments. The community will have capacity for approximately 5,500 residents.
The development will include retail and dining spaces, leisure facilities, community amenities and operational facilities.
Landscaped public areas and pedestrian-friendly streets will also form part of the project.
The village has been designed as a permanent residential community. After Expo 2030 Riyadh ends, the development will transition into an integrated neighbourhood with homes, shops, restaurants and community facilities, Arab News reported.
Connectivity is a key part of the project. Expo Village will have direct access to the Expo metro station.
It will also connect residents and visitors with King Khalid International Airport and Riyadh’s wider transport network.
The development will use climate-responsive design principles and efficient building systems. These features are intended to support environmental and operational performance over the long term.
Design and site preparation work for Expo Village have been completed. Construction is expected to begin according to the approved development schedule.
Expo 2030 Riyadh will run from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031. The event is expected to bring together 197 official participants and attract around 42 million visits.
The Expo Village is expected to become part of the wider development of northern Riyadh. Further residential projects are also planned as part of the Expo's long-term legacy programme.
