The Maharashtra government has approved CIDCO's proposal to expand the Navi Mumbai Metro network by developing Metro Line 1A and Metro Line 2. The next phase of the project involves an estimated investment of approximately ₹5,575 crore and is aimed at improving airport connectivity and strengthening regional transport links across Navi Mumbai.
The approval was granted by the state's Cabinet Infrastructure Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The metro expansion forms part of Maharashtra's broader efforts to enhance urban mobility and support infrastructure development in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Metro Line 1A And Line 2 To Strengthen Connectivity
Under the approved plan, Metro Line 1A and Metro Line 2 will expand the existing metro network and improve connectivity to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project is expected to create a more integrated public transportation system and provide faster access to key residential, commercial and infrastructure destinations in the region.
According to CIDCO, the unified metro corridor will substantially improve regional connectivity and support the long-term transportation needs of Navi Mumbai's growing population. CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal said the project will significantly enhance connectivity across the city.
Continuous Metro Corridor Planned
The expansion is expected to create a continuous 28-kilometre metro corridor extending from Sagar Sangam to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project proposes the development of 13 new stations, significantly expanding public transport coverage across important residential and commercial areas.
The expanded network is projected to serve nearly 12 lakh passengers daily in the coming years, helping reduce pressure on road networks and encouraging greater adoption of public transportation.

The metro expansion is expected to play a crucial role in supporting Navi Mumbai's long-term urban development.
