In a transformative move set to reshape the region’s property landscape, the Meghalaya government has officially notified the formation of the state’s first Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). Established under the landmark Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, this independent body is dedicated to paving the way for transparency, accountability, and consumer protection in Meghalaya’s promising real estate sector.
RERA Meghalaya stands as a guardian for homebuyers and investors, fostering trust and streamlining project approvals. The Authority enforces fair practices among developers and agents, requiring the registration of all real estate projects, promoters, and agents. This registration process is designed to maintain compliance with the Act and its accompanying rules—ensuring projects are held to the highest standards.
One of RERA Meghalaya’s defining features is its robust adjudication process, which pledges swift and fair conflict resolution for buyers, developers, and agents alike. By laying out clear compliance measures and upholding statutory provisions, the Authority strengthens both consumer rights and investor confidence.
RERA Meghalaya is urging all developers, promoters, and real estate agents in the state to promptly register themselves and their projects. As the Authority warns, complying with this mandate is not just a legal responsibility—it forms the bedrock of credibility and trustworthiness in the sector. Developers ignoring the new rules risk facing penalties and regulatory action under the Act.
With this initiative, Meghalaya steps into a new era of regulated, accountable, and consumer-friendly real estate, aiming to deliver secure investments and quality housing for all.
