Mercure Oradea hotel marking Accor's first property in the city

Accor's Mercure Hotels and Resorts brand has opened its first property in Oradea, Romania, developed with a €15 million investment under a franchise agreement with local partner Grand Hotel West.

The 90-room hotel sits in the western part of the city, within reach of the historic city centre, the Oradea Arena and the main business districts.

Day-to-day operations are handled by Spark Hospitality, a management company active across Romania and international markets with a focus on lifestyle hotels and resorts.

What the Hotel Offers

The Mercure Oradea covers a broad range of room types and guest facilities:

  • Room categories: Classic and Privilege rooms, suites, interconnecting family rooms and accessible rooms
  • Most rooms include a private balcony; select suites feature an outdoor jacuzzi on a terrace
  • All rooms equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, Chromecast, minibar, air conditioning and individually adjustable smart-room controls
  • StratumSPA wellness area: covered heated pool, whirlpool baths, Finnish and steam saunas, experience showers, fully equipped fitness room, massage and beauty treatments
  • Four conference rooms with natural lighting and full audiovisual equipment

Food and beverage is anchored by Rei Restaurant, serving seasonal ingredients with indoor and terrace seating, and Rei Café, an all-day venue for coffee and bistro dishes.

The Cobalt private wine cellar hosts wine tastings, private dinners and smaller events. The culinary programme has been developed under Henrik Sebok, a certified master chef from the region.

The Brand's Local Promise

Małgorzata Kalinowska-Klimek, Vice President of Franchise Operations for Eastern Europe at Accor, said the Mercure Oradea brings the brand's locally inspired positioning to life by creating an authentic connection for guests with the city and its heritage.

She pointed to Oradea's proximity to the Hungarian border as a particular advantage, describing the hotel as an attractive destination for cross-border visitors drawn by the city's history, Art Nouveau architecture and modern urban atmosphere.

Oradea's Growing Pull on Investors and Travellers

The opening lands in a city that has drawn considerable attention for its urban regeneration work over the past decade.

Oradea is increasingly cited as one of Romania's most successful examples of city rehabilitation, with its thermal bath culture, well-preserved Art Nouveau building stock and active investment in public spaces drawing a growing mix of leisure and business visitors.

The Mercure Oradea is Accor's clearest signal yet that the brand sees the city as a viable hospitality market rather than a secondary stop and it reinforces the broader pattern of international hotel brands following investment and infrastructure improvements into Romania's regional cities rather than concentrating exclusively on Bucharest.
