The transition of security operations at the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) marks a crucial milestone toward the airport’s operational readiness. With construction entering its final phase, NMIA is expected to begin passenger operations by mid-2025.
The CISF’s induction ensures that the airport’s security framework meets national and international aviation standards. The agency’s expertise will be vital in managing large-scale passenger movement, cargo operations, and emergency response protocols once the airport becomes fully functional.
Developed under the joint venture between the Adani Group and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO), NMIA has achieved major progress including terminal construction, runway paving, and air-traffic control systems installation. The airport’s design is intended to accommodate up to 90 million passengers annually once all phases are completed.
Strategically located near Panvel, the airport is expected to significantly decongest Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and stimulate economic and real estate growth across Navi Mumbai. Enhanced connectivity via the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and metro corridors will further amplify its accessibility.
As final security protocols and operational trials commence, NMIA stands as a symbol of India’s growing aviation ambition—poised to become one of the most advanced airports in the country and a key gateway for global travelers.
