The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened a new stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
It links the DND Flyway and Jaitpur. The section is 9 km long and is now open for trial runs.
The new stretch is expected to ease travel towards Faridabad. It will also provide uninterrupted access to Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur.
Nearly 8.5 km of the 9-km section is elevated, reflecting the scale of construction required for this short but significant stretch.
Part of a larger 59 km Delhi link
The Jaitpur-KMP interchange section had already been opened earlier. Around 50 km of the full 59-km Delhi link is now operational, in phases.
This link connects the DND Flyway to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway's junction with the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway.
With most of this link now open, only a smaller stretch remains before the full 59 km section is complete.
The opening effectively connects Delhi to the country's longest access-controlled expressway. The corridor was originally planned between Sohna and Jawaharlal Nehru Port near Mumbai.
NHAI proposed extending it to the DND Flyway in 2018, a change that brought the expressway's starting point much closer to the heart of Delhi.

No toll during trials, easing congestion nearby
The stretch has been opened for trial runs after construction and safety audits. No toll will be charged during this period.
This allows NHAI to monitor traffic and address any deficiencies before the route is formally commissioned.
The toll-free trial period gives the authority time to identify and fix any operational issues before regular traffic and toll collection begin.
The new link is also expected to draw traffic away from congested sections of Ring Road and Mathura Road.
These routes are currently used by vehicles travelling towards Faridabad, Ballabhgarh and Sohna. Shifting even a portion of this traffic onto the new expressway link could ease pressure on these long-congested corridors.

Full expressway expected operational to Vadodara by December
At a recent review meeting chaired by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, NHAI officials shared an update on the wider project.
They said the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is expected to become fully operational up to Vadodara by December. This timeline suggests that a large section of the country's longest expressway could be usable well before its complete end-to-end stretch to Mumbai is finished.
