Uttar Pradesh received a significant investment boost at the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 in New Delhi, with the virtual groundbreaking of Japanese-backed projects worth ₹3,191 crore in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority region.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the inaugural session, pitching UP as a long-term industrial partner for Japan and calling for cooperation across manufacturing, technology, research and development, skill development and global supply chains.
The meet drew over 200 Japanese investors and business leaders, led by Kotaro Nagasaki, governor of Yamanashi prefecture.
The event is the result of active outreach: CM Yogi visited Japan in February specifically to invite companies to invest in UP and the groundbreaking of YEIDA projects at the same event marks a direct return on that visit.
CM Yogi said the state wants Japanese companies to consider UP their "second industrial home," signalling an intent to build a sustained bilateral relationship rather than a one-off investment round.
Union ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted investment opportunities across agriculture, electronics, semiconductors, railways, defence and emerging technologies during the sessions.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority region has emerged as one of UP's most actively developed industrial and urban corridors, anchored by its proximity to the Jewar International Airport and connectivity to Delhi-NCR.
Japanese investment into YEIDA fits the region's positioning as a hub for advanced manufacturing and industrial-scale development, sectors where Japanese capital and technology transfer have historically added considerable depth to host economies.

The meet is scheduled to continue until 23 August, with the Japanese delegation visiting Agra, Lucknow, Varanasi and Sarnath to explore cultural, tourism and business opportunities across the state.
Nagasaki identified green hydrogen, tourism and governance as areas for future cooperation, pointing to a relationship that both sides intend to expand well beyond the manufacturing sectors that have defined Japan's industrial partnerships in India to date.
