Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, marking the company's entry into the South American market. The contract involves an estimated $70 million investment commitment and represents a significant expansion of Adani Ports' international marine services business.

The contract was awarded to APSEZ's subsidiary, Adani Harbour International, in partnership with Argentina-based Meridian Group following a global competitive bidding process conducted by Southern Energy S.A. (SESA), the developer of the LNG export project. Commercial operations are expected to begin in September 2027.

Marine Services Scope For LNG Export Operations

Under the agreement, the consortium will provide end-to-end marine services for the LNG project. The scope includes tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics support, marine supply services, and crew transfer operations required for the project's functioning.

The operations will be supported by a specialized fleet comprising four high-specification tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel, and one crew boat. The services will be delivered through Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A., a joint venture between Adani Harbour International and Meridian Group.

Argentina's First LNG Export Project

The project is considered a major milestone for Argentina's energy sector as it will support the country's first LNG exports. In its initial phase, the facility is expected to produce approximately 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, equivalent to around 28 LNG cargo shipments per year.

The development is expected to strengthen Argentina's position in global energy markets as the country seeks to emerge as a significant LNG supplier. Plans are already in place for exports to international markets, including India, beginning from 2027.

Strategic Expansion Into South America

The contract represents APSEZ's first major operational presence in South America and further expands its international footprint. The company currently operates marine services and maritime assets across multiple countries, supporting ports, LNG terminals, refineries, offshore facilities, and energy infrastructure projects.

According to APSEZ CEO Ashwani Gupta, the project demonstrates the company's growing capability to support large-scale energy infrastructure developments across international markets while creating new maritime trade corridors.
