Bengaluru’s property owners are stepping into a new era of convenience as the city’s municipal body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), rolls out a seamless online process for obtaining e-khata certificates. Gone are the days of long queues and multiple visits to municipal offices—homeowners can now secure their digital property ownership document in just two days, marking a major leap in the city’s property services.
An e-khata is the digital version of the traditional khata certificate, officially launched by BBMP and other local bodies in October 2024. This electronic document serves as proof of property ownership and can be easily applied for, downloaded, and verified online—eliminating the need for in-person visits to municipal offices.
Property owners without a khata can now generate one by visiting the official E-Aasthi portal. The process is straightforward:
Once submitted, BBMP authorities review the application and may conduct a site visit if needed. If all criteria are met, the e-khata is typically generated within 48 hours.
Since the digital khata system’s launch, BBMP has processed and issued over 2.75 lakh e-khatas, demonstrating the city’s commitment to digital governance and transparency. In a further push for efficiency, BBMP has introduced a new initiative inviting young and local entrepreneurs to participate in the e-khata service process. By registering through the official BBMP website, these individuals can assist residents in obtaining their e-khata and earn income—without paying any fees to the BBMP.
With this initiative, Bengaluru is not only streamlining property transactions but also empowering its citizens and entrepreneurs. The e-khata system is a shining example of how digital transformation can simplify lives, improve transparency, and build a smarter city for the future.
