The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has received earnest money deposit (EMD) payments from 75,366 applicants for its 2026 housing lottery offering 2,640 affordable homes across Mumbai. The figures were released after the closure of the EMD payment window on May 29.
According to MHADA, more than 97,000 applications were submitted for the lottery. Out of these, 75,366 applicants completed the mandatory EMD payment process, making them eligible for participation in the draw. The authority stated that this translates to an average of 28.54 applications per flat.
In its official statement, MHADA said the response reflects the growing trust of Mumbai residents in the housing authority and highlights the continued demand for affordable housing in the city.
The application process remained open until 11:59 pm on May 28, 2026. Applicants who submitted their forms within the deadline were permitted to make online EMD payments until May 29, 2026.
MHADA has announced a detailed schedule for the next stages of the lottery process. The authority will publish the provisional list of applications on its official housing portal at 3:00 pm on June 10, 2026.
Applicants will be allowed to submit online claims and objections until 3:00 pm on June 12, 2026. After reviewing the submissions, MHADA will release the final list of accepted applications at 3:00 pm on June 16, 2026.
The lottery includes 2,640 homes across multiple locations in Mumbai. According to MHADA data, 1,762 apartments, accounting for nearly 66% of the inventory, are currently under construction.
These under-construction units are located in areas such as Vikhroli, Goregaon, and Borivali. Of the 1,762 units, 128 apartments are in Borivali East and 85 apartments are in Goregaon West, while the remaining units are situated in Kanamwar Nagar and Vikhroli.
MHADA stated that the date, time, and venue of the lottery draw will be announced only after the conclusion of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) currently in force for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections of local self-government bodies.
According to the authority, the MCC remains effective until June 25, 2026. Once the election process is completed and the code is lifted, MHADA will announce the schedule for the housing lottery draw.
