In the bustling city of Mumbai, property owners faced a ticking clock to pay their property tax for the first half of financial year 2025–26. Yet, due to unforeseen delays, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has extended the deadline by three months to ease the burden and ensure fair access for everyone.
Many taxpayers expressed concern over receiving their revised tax bills late, leaving them with barely 15 days to set things right. The delay stemmed from technical glitches in printing, compounded by an ongoing system upgrade within the Indian Postal Department, impacting bill delivery citywide.
Understanding the challenge, BMC adopted a flexible, ward-wise extension approach. Originally, the payment period was to close on August 13, but it now stretches differently across wards to accommodate citizens fairly.
This extension provides much-needed breathing space for taxpayers, reflecting BMC’s responsiveness to civic concerns and its commitment to smooth tax collection without unnecessary hardship.
