Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Roads (RGA) has inaugurated more than 900 kilometres of new roads during the first half of 2026 as part of an ambitious programme to improve national connectivity and strengthen transport infrastructure. The expansion includes 40 road projects spread across multiple regions of the Kingdom, reinforcing the government's commitment to enhancing mobility, supporting economic development and advancing the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. The road projects have been completed in key regions including Makkah, Madinah, Asir, the Eastern Province and Qassim. According to the General Authority for Roads, Saudi Arabia recorded more than 3.7 million truck journeys along its logistics corridors during the first six months of 2026. The expanded road network is expected to further improve freight efficiency by strengthening links between ports, border crossings, industrial zones and major cities. Enhanced logistics infrastructure will support domestic supply chains while improving Saudi Arabia's position as a regional logistics hub connecting Asia, Africa and Europe.

The first half of 2026 also saw the launch of a new Control and Rapid Response Center alongside a Smart Control Center dedicated to road operations and maintenance. The authority also expanded compliance monitoring of the Saudi Roads Code and signed five memorandums of understanding to promote innovation and collaboration within the transport sector.
Improving Services for Road Users
Alongside infrastructure development, the authority issued more than 32,000 permits for services across the national road network during the first half of the year. During the Hajj season, additional initiatives including mobile service stations, the Darbak Noor initiative and specialised road guidance services were introduced to improve the travel experience and ensure safe movement for pilgrims travelling to the holy sites. These measures demonstrate Saudi Arabia's broader focus on delivering efficient and user-friendly transport services.
