UP to Prepare GIS-Based Master Plans for 93 Tier-II Towns

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that it will prepare GIS-based master plans for 93 tier-II towns located across 49 districts of the state. The initiative is intended to ensure that the rapid expansion of smaller urban centres takes place in a planned and sustainable manner, supported by scientific land use planning and improved infrastructure development. According to official reports, the project will utilise Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to create detailed digital maps that can guide future urban growth.

Tier-II towns in Uttar Pradesh have witnessed increasing residential, commercial, and economic activity over the past few years. As these towns continue to expand, the government aims to establish a framework that can help local authorities manage growth while maintaining an organised urban structure. The central framework focuses on creating standardised base maps, land use maps, master plans, and urban geo-portals using GIS technology.
