Sharjah has unveiled plans for the development of Al Freish Lake in the Kalba region, covering 51,200 sqm behind Al Marsh Square.
The project has been approved by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
It will add a significant lakeside park and public amenity to one of the emirate's east coast communities, extending approximately 750 metres along the site.
What the Development Will Include
The project centres on a large water body with a capacity of 28 million gallons. Alongside the lake itself, the development will feature:
- 200 parking spaces
- Tree planting across the surrounding mountain areas
- Waterfalls flowing through the trees toward the sea
- Walking paths and open spaces for families to enjoy the natural landscape
Sheikh Dr Sultan described the project as a pleasant park for children, comparable in character to the Al Rafisah Dam project.
He said trees are currently being planted in the mountain area and that waterfalls among the trees will flow into the sea. Visitors will be able to park, walk and enjoy the surroundings.

What Al Freish Lake Means for Kalba
Kalba sits on Sharjah's east coast, separated from the emirate's main urban areas by the Hajar Mountains.
The city has its own distinct character mangroves, a historic fort, a seafront corniche and proximity to the Fujairah border.
Public infrastructure investment of this scale adds a meaningful lifestyle amenity to a community that has historically had fewer urban facilities than Sharjah's main city areas.

The Al Rafisah Dam comparison is telling. That project a mountain reservoir surrounded by greenery in the Khorfakkan area became one of Sharjah's most popular family destinations precisely because it combined natural landscape with accessible public infrastructure.
Al Freish Lake is designed around the same idea: a family-friendly destination where natural setting and public amenity reinforce each other.
For Kalba residents and visitors, the development signals continued investment in the east coast as a liveable, attractive part of the emirate beyond its role as an industrial and fishing area.
