Tourism development projects planned across more than 1 million square metres in South Magawish, Hurghada, Egypt

Egypt’s Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has issued 16 final land allocation decisions covering more than 1 million square metres at the South Magawish Tourism Center, south of Hurghada in the Red Sea Governorate.

The allocated plots will support integrated hotel, tourism services and entertainment projects.

The projects will be implemented according to approved development schedules.

The allocations form part of Egypt’s efforts to expand tourism infrastructure, increase hotel capacity and strengthen the investment potential of its tourism destinations.

Projects to Add 856 Hotel Rooms

Mostafa Abdel Wahab, CEO of the TDA, said the 16 allocation decisions cover plots within the tourism centre’s master plans, with a combined area exceeding 1 million square metres.

The planned developments are expected to add around 856 hotel rooms, alongside professionally managed accommodation units.

One existing project will also expand its capacity to 946 hotel units, adding to the accommodation offering in the area.

The allocations are intended to support a range of tourism-related activities rather than hotel development alone.

The planned mix includes accommodation, visitor services and entertainment facilities designed to diversify the tourism products available in Hurghada.

Two Aqua Parks Included in Development Plans

The approved allocations also include two water parks, commonly known as aqua parks. According to Abdel Wahab, one of the two facilities will be operated by an international operator.

The projects will also include tourism service centres and upscale entertainment areas.

These facilities are intended to support existing and future tourism developments and broaden the range of services available to visitors.

Government Targets Tourism Investment Growth

Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, said the government is focused on maximising the tourism and investment potential of Egypt’s destinations.

She highlighted the importance of creating an environment that supports investment and the development of integrated projects.

El-Menshawy added that expanding tourism projects is part of the state’s efforts to increase hotel room capacity and strengthen tourism cities and centres. These investments are expected to support economic activity and create additional employment opportunities.

TDA to Monitor Project Implementation

The ministry and the General Authority for Tourism Development will continue facilitating procedures and monitoring implementation. The TDA will also oversee the projects against their approved timelines to help ensure that construction is completed and facilities become operational as scheduled.

The land allocations at South Magawish represent a further step in developing Hurghada’s tourism infrastructure. With additional hotel rooms, managed accommodation, aqua parks and visitor services planned, the projects are intended to expand the area’s tourism capacity and diversify its leisure offering.
