Japanese expatriates living in Gurugram are finding a residential community that combines workplace accessibility, dependable housing services and Japanese-inspired design.
Krisumi City, an integrated development spread across 33.38 acres in Sector 36A along the Dwarka Expressway, is attracting international residents seeking a comfortable home while adapting to life in India.
Developed by Krisumi Corporation, a joint venture between Japan's Sumitomo Corporation and India's Krishna Group, the project combines Japanese-inspired architecture, contemporary amenities and an international residential community.
The development lists 100 expatriate residents, including 97 Japanese nationals, one Sri Lankan, one Korean and one Venezuelan. These residents lease homes at an average rate of ₹100 per sq ft, according to the project information.
For Japanese professionals living abroad, the residential experience extends beyond the apartment itself. Maintenance responsiveness, clean common areas and helpful staff can make everyday life easier while adjusting to a different country.
A Japanese resident who works as a senior executive at an automotive parts manufacturing company said he appreciates the prompt maintenance services, cleanliness and professional staff at Krisumi Waterfall Residences.
Having previously spent eight years in the United States, he is familiar with adapting to different cultural environments.
Rather than attempting to recreate Japan in India, he values the balance between the two cultures. He also appreciates India's energy and economic momentum, which make the country an engaging place to live and work.
Access to familiar food products is another consideration for expatriates settling in Gurugram. The resident typically shops at Sekai Ichiba in South Point Mall or Central Mall for Japanese groceries and everyday essentials.
He would also welcome a wider selection of Japanese food products at the store within Krisumi itself. Easier access to familiar ingredients can simplify daily routines while residents explore local food and cultural experiences.
For another Japanese expatriate, the decision to live at Krisumi City was influenced by his daily commute. Although his company offered several residential options, he selected the development because travel time to his workplace in the Manesar area was reasonable.
Nearby malls also provide access to everyday necessities. However, adapting to life in India brings some cultural differences, including frequent road honking, which contrasts with the traffic etiquette he was accustomed to in Japan.
The availability of clean toilet facilities was another practical challenge he identified.
Krisumi Corporation has begun developing The Forest Reserve and The Forest Reserve-II, identified as Phases 5 and 6 of Krisumi City. Together, the phases will comprise 542 residences, with an investment exceeding ₹1,300 crore over five years and estimated revenue potential of more than ₹4,000 crore.
The planned ultra-luxury development will feature two-, three- and four-LDK residences, reflecting Japanese spatial planning and functional design principles.
Japanese architectural firm Nikken Sekkei is designing the project, which will span approximately 1.67 million sq ft.
Planned residence sizes range from around 2,166 sq ft to 3,993 sq ft, with prices starting at approximately ₹4.9 crore, depending on configuration and applicable charges.

The Forest Reserve will offer residents access to The Cascades Club, a 162,000 sq ft private members' club designed around recreation, dining and social interaction.
Its planned facilities include Japanese-inspired spa experiences, signature dining, lounges, an indoor sports arena and members-only events.
Ashok Kapur, chairman of Krisumi Corporation, said the development brings together Japanese craftsmanship and Indian hospitality, with an emphasis on nature, thoughtful design and quality.
