UAE-based developer Mered has launched Riviera Residences Phase 2, a 404-home waterfront residential development on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, within the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) area.
Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026, expanding the wider project alongside its first phase.
The development will comprise 389 apartments, eight Bay Villas, six Sky Villas and one penthouse.
The project is designed by Herzog & de Meuron, with an architectural concept inspired by Abu Dhabi’s pearl-diving heritage.
The project’s façade will feature custom-made elements inspired by mother-of-pearl.
Its design also includes a 30-metre-long, three-dimensional sand-printed lobby installation, custom glass panels and selected interior finishes.
Residences will feature layouts using natural materials, with private balconies or terraces connecting indoor living spaces to the surrounding landscape and waterfront.
Riviera Residences Phase 2 will offer more than 65,000 sq ft of resort-style amenities.
Planned facilities include swimming pools, spa and wellness areas, indoor and outdoor fitness spaces, a padel court, lounges and children’s play areas.
The wider community will also include landscaped gardens and a waterfront promenade with cafés, restaurants and retail spaces overlooking the bay and Al Reem skyline.
The landscape design takes inspiration from Mediterranean coastal gardens, adapting the layered greenery and planted terraces of the French and Italian Riviera to Abu Dhabi’s climate.
The development’s planned landscape will include around 300 trees and palms, more than 7,000 square metres of planted surfaces and over 60 plant species and varieties.
Three garden concepts—Sea Pearl Garden, Energy Garden and Bloom Orchard—will provide spaces for relaxation, wellbeing and family activities.
The planting palette will include rosemary, thyme, lavender, flowering species and citrus trees, alongside UAE-native and climate-adapted plants selected to withstand heat, salinity and wind exposure.
Drip irrigation, automated controls and weather sensors are planned to support water management. A one-kilometre walking path will run through the landscaped areas.
