Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan to allocate 11.56 lakh houses to the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme.
Reddy raised the request during a meeting with Chouhan in New Delhi, where he said his government had been prioritising housing for the poor since assuming office. The meeting brought the state's rural housing needs directly to the Centre's attention at a time when demand has been rising sharply across Telangana's rural districts.
Reddy briefed Chouhan on the construction of houses under the state government's 'Indiramma' housing scheme and said demand for housing had risen because the previous BRS government failed to fully utilise the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin scheme.
As a result, he said, lakhs of poor people were deprived of housing during the past decade. The CM's remarks framed the current request as an effort to correct this shortfall and ensure eligible rural families are not left without support.
The CM said a survey conducted by the state government using the 'Awaas+' app, developed by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, had identified 11,56,915 eligible rural families, according to a press release.
This figure forms the basis of Telangana's request for 11.56 lakh houses under PMAY-G. He urged the union minister to allocate houses to Telangana at the earliest, the release said, underlining the urgency the state has attached to the request.

In view of the El Nino weather pattern affecting the current monsoon season, Reddy also requested Chouhan to include additional works under the VB-G-RAM-G scheme.
He told the union minister that expanding the scope of the scheme would help improve livelihoods and promote crop diversification among groups whose incomes and employment opportunities have been affected by deficient rainfall, the release added. The groups specifically named were:
Reddy's request ties Telangana's housing push to its broader rural development priorities, linking the PMAY-G allocation to both immediate shelter needs identified through the Awaas+ survey and longer-term livelihood support for communities affected by the current monsoon's rainfall deficit.
