Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Sunday that the Indiramma housing scheme for low-income groups (LIG) in the core urban region economy (CURE) area will be launched at the secretariat on Monday. The government plans to construct one lakh multi-storey flats within the core urban region, with application processes and eligibility criteria to be released by ministers at the event.
How the Housing Will Be Built
The Congress government would construct a lakh LIG flats in multi-storey buildings of up to 10 floors each. Ministers in charge of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, Ponnam Prabhakar and D. Sridhar Babu, along with Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, would release the application process, eligibility criteria, and the scheme brochure at the secretariat on Monday.

Building Close to Where Residents Already Live
The government has identified prime land parcels within the city for housing the poor, with site sizes ranging from one to five acres in these areas. Unlike the previous government's approach, the minister said the new housing projects are being built close to the areas where the poor currently reside, rather than on the outskirts of the city. He appealed to people to apply within their respective constituencies, since each constituency is being treated as a distinct unit for the scheme's implementation.

Part of a Larger Statewide Target
The government plans to construct 3.50 lakh houses across rural and urban areas this fiscal year — 2.50 lakh in rural areas and 1 lakh in urban areas. The cabinet had approved in May the construction of a lakh LIG houses in the CURE area, with about 12,000 houses to be constructed on a pilot basis in each of the select constituencies within CURE.
Other Priorities the Minister Reviewed
At a separate review meeting, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy directed officials to ensure renovation works at the Bhadrachalam Sitaramachandra Swamy Devasthanam are completed ahead of the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu, with the temple complex required to be ready at least 15 days before the event. He also inspected ongoing development works on-site and met with endowments and engineering officials. In a further review meeting, the minister directed officials to complete a transparent land re-survey in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, addressing issues related to forest and revenue land parcels, the podu land issue, and development at Srinivasagutta in Palvancha, stressing that survey operations must accelerate without delays.
