In rural Jharkhand, a housing scheme provides financial and labour assistance to eligible families. The goal is to help them construct pucca houses.
The scheme primarily targets rural families. It does not cover urban areas.
The Abua Awas Yojana is run by the Department of Rural Development, Government of Jharkhand. It aims to provide pucca houses to 8,00,000 homeless families.
This will happen in three phases. The scheme has a total budget of Rs 16,320 crore.
House Design and Financial Assistance
The scheme prioritises vulnerable and underprivileged families. Each house is designed to feature three rooms and a kitchen. The total area covers 31 square metres.
Under the scheme, each beneficiary receives financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for house construction.
They also receive the equivalent of 95 days of unskilled labour wages under MGNREGA.
Eligibility Criteria
Families living in kutcha houses or without permanent housing are eligible for the scheme. Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, victims of natural calamities, and released bonded labourers are also eligible.
However, families that have already benefited from certain housing schemes are not eligible. This includes PMAY-R, Indira Awas Yojana, and Birsa Awas Yojana. The gram sabha prepares a permanent waiting list of beneficiaries.

Documents Required
Applicants are required to provide a few key documents.
- Aadhaar card
- Bank passbook
- Job card
- Address proof
- Caste certificate
Any other document, if required, may also have to be submitted.

How to Apply
Applicants can apply through both offline and online modes. For offline applications, applicants should visit the Block or District Office during office hours.
They should request a hard copy of the prescribed application form from the staff responsible for issuing and collecting applications.
The applicant must fill in all mandatory fields in the form. Copies of the required documents must be attached, self-attested where required.
The completed and signed form, along with the documents, should then be submitted to the block or district office.
Applicants should request a receipt or acknowledgment from the concerned authority. This should include the date and time of submission and a unique identification number, if applicable.
For online registration, applicants can visit the official Abua Awas Yojana website. They can register themselves under the scheme.
Applicants can then log in using the provided username and password. They should complete the application form and upload the required documents on the portal.
This dual-mode process is designed to make the scheme accessible to families across Jharkhand's rural areas.
