NCC has been commissioned by Hemsö to build a new nursing home in Turku, Finland. The construction contract is worth approximately €17.4 million and is being jointly developed by NCC and Hemsö.
The facility will be operated by Varha, the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland. It will replace an existing nursing home built in the 1960s that can no longer be upgraded to meet modern elderly care requirements.
New Facility to Provide 170 Care Places
The new nursing home will cover approximately 7,800 square metres and provide 170 care places.
The facility is designed to support elderly care and rehabilitation while also providing suitable working conditions for Varha employees.
Construction is scheduled to begin this month, with completion planned for spring 2028. The project is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification.
Replacement of Existing Nursing Home
The project involves replacing the existing facility on the same site. The older building could no longer be upgraded to meet contemporary care standards.
The new development is being designed as a flexible, long-term facility. It will support care and rehabilitation services while providing working space for employees.
Esa Lehmusvuori, Department Manager at NCC Building Nordics, said demand for healthcare and care services is increasing. He added that the new facility is being developed to support residents' well-being and provide suitable conditions for Varha's employees for the long term.

Focus on Long-Term Sustainability
Hemsö's Construction Manager Heini Jokinen said the goal is to create flexible and sustainable facilities that can support Varha's elderly care and rehabilitation services for many years.
The project is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification, placing sustainability among the development's stated objectives.
NCC Registers Order in Building Nordics
NCC said the order will be registered in its NCC Building Nordics business area during the third quarter of 2026.
NCC is one of the leading construction companies in the Nordic region.
The company reported sales of approximately €4.9 billion in 2025 and has around 11,500 employees. NCC is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.
