Bengaluru Metro elevated Pink Line train running along the Bannerghatta Road corridor.

Bengaluru Metro's elevated Pink Line has received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), marking a major step towards opening the 7.5 km corridor.

The new stretch will connect Bannerghatta Road through six stations and take Bengaluru's operational metro network to 103.6 km once services begin.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may inaugurate the line during his proposed visit to the city on November 15, although the Centre has yet to confirm the date.

Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Receives CMRS Safety Clearance

The CMRS granted the crucial safety clearance on October 28, following inspections and technical reviews of the elevated corridor.

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated that the Prime Minister was expected to visit Bengaluru on November 15 and could inaugurate the new metro section.

The state government is awaiting confirmation from the Centre. Officials have written to the Union government seeking an inauguration date.

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda indicated that the stretch could open by mid-November and said he would meet Union ministers in early November to pursue an early launch.

Six Metro Stations to Improve Bannerghatta Road Connectivity

The elevated Pink Line covers 7.5 km and includes six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere.

The corridor will bring metro connectivity to Bannerghatta Road and its surrounding locations. The addition is expected to improve access to the areas served by these six stations through Bengaluru's expanding urban rail network.

Once operational, the line will increase Bengaluru's metro network length to 103.6 km. According to the source, this will allow Bengaluru to surpass Mumbai and become the country's second-longest metro network.

CMRS Inspection Identified 36 Technical Issues

The CMRS inspected the elevated stretch between October 6 and October 8. During the inspection, officials identified 36 issues and sought corrective action along with additional technical documentation.

The observations included missing fire safety arrangements, malfunctioning lift systems, damaged electrical earthing connections and unresolved train-testing issues.

These observations required the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to address safety and technical requirements before the line could receive clearance.

BMRCL submitted documents demonstrating compliance with the observations on October 15. The CMRS subsequently requested additional information before the safety clearance was granted on October 28.

Train Frequency and Operational Plan

BMRCL plans to operate five trains on the elevated Pink Line stretch. Services are expected to run at intervals of six minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes during non-peak hours.

The planned frequency will determine how commuters access the new stations during different periods of the day.

The operational schedule will become relevant for residents, employees and other travellers using the Bannerghatta Road corridor.

Real Estate and Connectivity Implications Along Bannerghatta Road

The Pink Line extension adds a new public transport corridor to Bannerghatta Road, connecting six stations with Bengaluru's wider metro network.

Improved metro access can make commuting more convenient for residential communities and businesses located around the stations.

For the local real estate landscape, the new connectivity is relevant to residential properties, commercial establishments and institutional locations along the corridor.

Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB and the other station areas will gain direct access to the expanded metro network once services commence.

However, the safety clearance and proposed inauguration do not establish any specific change in property prices or rental values. The actual impact will depend on the corridor's operational performance and how commuters use the new services.
